We are pleased to announce that Brooklyn School of Excellence will be launching a Sunday Art School Program beginning March 1st. This Structured Academic Art Education program is designed to provide students with strong foundational skills in drawing and painting through guided, technique-based instruction in a focused and supportive environment.
A try-out class will be held on February 22nd from 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM. Please sign up in advance to participate.
The program is organized by age group to ensure developmentally appropriate instruction:
Ages 6–7 (Preparatory Program)
Sundays, 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM
Students will be introduced to basic drawing skills, shapes, proportions, and color exploration. Emphasis will be placed on developing fine motor skills, creativity, focus, and confidence through structured yet engaging lessons.
Ages 8–9 (Introductory Academic Program)
Sundays, 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM
Students will begin building foundational academic drawing techniques, including composition, shading, perspective basics, and introductory color theory. Instruction will focus on observation skills and artistic discipline.
Ages 10–12 (Basic Academic Program)
Sundays, 12:00 PM – 1:30 PM
Students will strengthen technical drawing and painting skills, including proportion, light and shadow, still life studies, and structured composition. Greater emphasis will be placed on technique refinement and artistic accuracy, with introductory portfolio development offered.
Ages 13–15 (Advanced Academic Program)
Sundays, 1:30 PM – 3:00 PM
Students will focus on advanced academic methods, detailed rendering, complex compositions, perspective, and refined shading techniques. Portfolio development will be emphasized to support preparation for specialized high school programs, art competitions, and future academic opportunities.
